When Courtland and I first began working on Stabb Gunner, we didn’t understand the characters or the universe quite as well as we do now. Along the way, we’ve learned that Stabb Gunner should be colorful, bright, and larger than life. As the direction has changed, so too has the color style. Above is a before (left) and after (right) comparison of the digital painting techniques being used in earlier and current Stabb Gunner art. The line has been simplified and the color has exploded. Honestly I love both styles, but consistency is king! We hope you enjoy the direction we’re going. You’ll be able to see all of the new and redone pages when we publish the now finished first chapter in the Stabb Gunner Saga.

The piece above is one I’ve been meaning to share for a while now. It seems that our boy Stabb Fisticuffs has found himself in a spot of trouble. Nothing a leap from an exploding building and a discarded grenade can’t fix. I’m glad our fans are aware of the silliness inherent in Stabb Gunner. Big props to the artist, Lloyd Harper.

Here is a sneaky peak of a panel from next week’s Stabb Gunner page. I can’t tell you how much fun I’ve had working with Courtland to develop the book. I get to work on all sorts of fantastic projects, but this one has an extra special place in my heart. It’s a tremendous amount of work, but so rewarding. It was a year ago when I first approached Courtland about the book. We haven’t stopped laughing ever since.

I was tickled to find a link to the artwork above in my mailbox Sunday afternoon. I love Stabb Gunner fan art. Especially when the artist seems to know how silly the subject material can be. Notice the Midget and Giant Midget (wtf?) being assaulted by our hero Stabb Fisticuffs, and their ignored cries of anguish. Please note the Stabb Gunner team, does not endorse the views and opinions present in fan-art. Keep ’em coming people!
